GIVING AND SUPPORT

The Israeli government has pledged $44 million for improvements to the hospital. Our goal is to match that figure, raising an additional $44 million towards these essential upgrades. Your contributions will be used to fund the following improvements at the Barzilai Medical Center:
- Fortification of existing structures and addition of new fortified buildings to ensure that all hospital units are operating at maximum safety and operating capacity
- Expansion from 500 to 750 bed capacity, a 65% increase commensurate with area growth and current political climate
- Construction of a modern Pediatric Ward, including a new Pediatric intensive care unit, rooms large enough for parents to stay with their sick children, double the number of beds allowing for increased privacy, and a new Pediatric day care
- Design and renovation of the Gynecology Wing, including smaller rooms for 1-3 beds with separate bathrooms and toilets, separated waiting areas, suitable spaces for ultrasonography-guided procedures and a more comfortable environment for the IVF customers.
- Enhancements to the Oncology Institute that will provide room for family members to sit next to their loved ones during chemotherapy and privacy for those patients who feel sick during chemotherapy. Shockingly, there is only one toilet in the Oncology institute - Patients who receive IV fluids are obligated to wait for their turn to use the only toilet in the institute. The new plan includes the addition of more restroom facilities.
- Addition of a specialized and well equipped Stroke Unit and trained staff within the department of Neurology. This unit will treat 3-4 patients at a time, rather than one at a time which is currently the case. This unit may serve also as the basis for training of stroke teams, education and research in the field of stroke.
- Creation of a new, modern Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, one that is sheltered and gas protected, and designed to meet the significant progress in medical technology and treatment for preterm babies and the continuous growth of the deliveries in the area. We also hope and prepare ourselves to continue be the referral center for our Palestinian neighbors when peace will come.
